Katie Berghausen, APRN, PMHNP-BC

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
Licensed in Kentucky

Kathleen (Katie) is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) serving patients of all ages and diagnoses.  Her treatments are healing-centered, education-forward, and person-focused.  This involves customized strategies that may begin with medication and therapy, and can involve holistic, integrative planning including nutrition and activity to treat the whole person.  She aligns with the idea that nursing is the foundation of healing and works to provide intervention, education, and advocacy. Katie believes psychiatric care should help patients live their life to their fullest potential.

Her background of more than 20 years of experience in nursing offers her a wealth of first-hand experience, giving her an unmatched skillset in both understanding medical systems and in providing mental healthcare.  Katie took an unconventional path to becoming a psychiatric nurse practitioner, spending nearly a decade as an operating room nurse, both in the civilian and military sectors.  It was during Katie’s time in the military that her love of psychiatry developed and where she recognized the importance of decreasing the stigma around mental health.

In addition to her practical experience, Katie has a unique ability to connect with individuals, a capacity to understand them, and the empathy to meet where they are.  She is genuine, warm, exuberant, and thrives on seeing others succeed.  She is also direct, honest and to the point.  When working with Katie, you will have a straightforward, dedicated mental health advocate on your side.
